STEM Collaboration with St Patrick's College Dungannon
Throughout December and January, Primary 6 & 7 have worked in collaboration with pupils from St Patrick's College Dungannon within STEM to learn more about Flight. The pupils from St Patrick's College visited our school to deliver two of the workshops and the boys and girls of Primary 6 & 7 got an opportunity to visit St Patrick's College for the final workshop.
The first workshop involved both sets of students working together to create paper aeroplanes and testing which aeroplane would fly the furthest. Primary 6 & 7 enjoyed this task and it became competitive to see who had created the best aeroplane.
The second workshop involved the pupils from St Patrick's College setting the class the challenge of creating a parachute to drop from a height to protect an egg. The pupils from St Patrick's College delivered advice on how to slow down the landing of parachute in order to minimise the risk of the egg cracking.
Primary 6 & 7 enjoyed this activity and there was a lot of intrigued faces when it came to dropping their parachutes.
The final workshop allowed the Primary 6 & 7 classes the opportunity to visit St Patrick's College where they were set the challenge of obtaining their Drone Flying Licence. There was great excitement and with the assistance of St Patrick's College pupils the boys and girls were able to fly drones.
We would like to thank St Patrick's College for collaborating with Primary 6 & 7 and look forward to more workshops in the future.
